KY Horse Farms RescueThe Lexington Herald Leader newspaper, published an article about 70 horses that were recently rescued from a Kentucky horse farm in Jessamine County KY.  The horses were found to be malnourished and in poor condition.  Most of the animals at the horse farm were Tennessee Walking Horses.  The KY horse farm is located in Jessamine County, approximately 6 miles south of Nicholasville KY on the far end of Hunters Ferry Road.

The owners defended their position that the horses weren’t neglected or abused - and were only in their current position because of the lack of forage (grass, etc) in the fields at present - primarily as a result of the drought last year, and the tremendous amount of rains that we’ve had this winter.  The horses were allegedly being fed hay as well as corn.  The owners went on to say that they believed that it was just someone that got mad at them for some reason, and called in a complaint against them.

Acting on an anonymous call, an animal control officer as well as a  Rood and Riddle equine veterinarian obtained a search warrant to look over the horse farm in Nicholasville KY.  The horses were deemed to be malnourished, and consequently seized.  The owner defends their position that the government should help sponsor assistance for horse farms owners during this tough time with hay prices being so high instead of bringing charges and confiscating their animals.  The horses should able to be nourished back to healthy weights.
