Many Kentucky counties/cities are organizing committees to try and draw some of the persons attending the WEG, to spend some time (and money) in their area.

Just some of the Kentucky counties/cities that have organized committees are as follows:

Grant County - home to some of the countries best Draft horses is planning an event that would include plowing and horse pulling contests, and is aiming to schedule their event for some of the less popular events during the WEG - and give visitors the opportunity to attend their festival in lieu of attending some other event at the WEG - and experience some of the roots of Kentucky’s past ties with agriculture, farms, and the horses that made farms viable in KY.

Woodford County - primary focus is promoting the 2 largest towns in the county which are Midway and Versailles. They hope to draw tourists to the area’s many bed & breakfasts, and other unique restaurants and other dining experiences in the area.

Jessamine County - has named their committee Destination Jessamine. They are considering moving an already scheduled Christian concert and music festival to a new date that would overlap with the WEG. They are also considering war re-enactments at Camp Nelson.

Bourbon County - they are splitting their task force into 3 groups based upon their county motto: Horses, History & Hospitality. They have designed a logo that will encompass jockey silk’s with a proud fleur de lis (which just so happens to also be the symbol for Louisville Kentucky).

Winchester - is planning on adding some new events that may include activities at the United Mountain Horse Center which is located in eastern Clark County. One big attraction for the center is native Kentucky gaited horses which some persons may not be familiar with.

Georgetown - this city is literally next door to the host location of the Kentucky Horse Park, and many hotels are already scheduling a 2 week sell out for the 16 day event. Mayor Karen Tingle-Sames is on the board for the World Equestrian Games Foundation which is the regulating body in charge of the event.

There are also plans for a Kentucky Village booth to be at the WEG - that will allow counties across the state to showcase their people, products, and attractions to the many visitors that are in attendance for the games.

Switching topics to a new one:

The World Equestrian Games is expected to need between 8000 and 10000 volunteers to help with various tasks to make the event a success. Some of the jobs may include directing visitors to parking areas, dealing with ticket taking, and even translation for some of the expected many foreign visitors that will be coming to the event.
